Fire Protection

Purewood Structural Panels (PSPs) are an excellent choice for fire protection.

Even though wood is a flammable material, solid wood usually has better fire protection properties than concrete, steel or wooden stick-frame buildings. In contrast with rough surfaces, the planed and therefore relatively smooth surface of our Purewood Structural Panels have less surface area and consequently do not catch fire easily.

During the event of a fire, a protective layer of coal forms on the surface of the panels, protecting the core which provides support. This allows the load-bearing capacity to remain high, slowing the weakening of the burning panels.
